Gum Disease & Periodontitis Treatment - Saving Your Gum Tissue is Our Priority
Sore, swollen & bleeding gums : causes and treatment for gum disease.
Are your gums puffy, sore and bleeding? Have you noticed pockets forming between your gums and your teeth?
This situation isn't just uncomfortable, it can be unsettling. While such symptoms certainly shouldn't be ignored, there's no need to panic.
Here's what you need to know about the situation.
What is Periodontitis?
Gum (periodontal) diseases are treated in a variety of ways depending on the stage of disease, how you may have responded to earlier treatments, and your overall health.
This may begin as minor oral discomfort but gum disease can lead to tooth loss, jawbone recession, and even serious whole-body health problems like cardiovascular disease. Don’t let gum disease go untreated.
Warning Signs Of Gum Disease
-
Bleeding gums when brushing or flossing
-
Puffy or swollen gums
-
Redness of the gums
-
Sensitive or painful gums
-
Loose or separating teeth
-
Receding or detaching gums
-
Constant bad breath, odour and taste
-
Mouth sores (or abscesses) secretions
It's important to seek check up and treatment from a dentist.
If gum disease is responsible for your symptoms, it could get worse if it's left untreated. As gum disease progresses, it damages the soft tissue, fibers that are connected to the teeth and bone that support your teeth.
This damage can loosen your teeth in their sockets and in severe perio-cases, the teeth may need to be removed.

The destructive effects of gum disease don’t stop with the mouth. Studies have shown that gum disease and across the country has been positively linked to systemic health issues including heart disease, stroke, cancer, respiratory disease, and diabetes and pregnancy complications. This is because the same bacteria that trigger gum disease can travel through your body and reach your major organs.
You could be living each day with a systemic, low-grade infection. With all the dangers gum disease presents, it’s easy to see why you should do your best to prevent it and get help at the first sign of symptoms!
How does gum inflammation affect heart health?
According to the lead author of the Australian study, Professor Joerg Eberhard, accumulated plaque causes an inflammatory process that plays a critical role in the development of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. The Australian researchers tested a group of healthy non-smoking young adults with no cardiovascular risk factors. A sample of the group was instructed to not brush a specific quadrant of their tooth surfaces for three weeks. The results were surprising.
The sample participants with poor oral hygiene experienced gum inflammation that had spread to other parts of the body thus becoming systemic inflammation. Additionally, during these inflammation events, they had elevated levels of C-reactive protein which is a major risk marker for heart attacks.
